6 major companies that are looking to hire in 2016

With a weakening global economic outlook for 2016, plus the recent announcements of job cuts in some industries, people are naturally becoming more concerned about job security*. 
Despite these sentiments, we should be reminded that a slowdown in economic growth does not mean no growth – Malaysia is still poised to achieve forecasted a 4.0-4.5% GDP growth in 2016*. While companies are adjusting to the new reality, businesses still run as usual, with many employers trying to fill vacancies in time to meet the demands of expansions and new projects. 

Here are some major organisations in Malaysia who are actively looking to hire skilled professional talent:
1. Chemical Company of Malaysia Berhad (CCM)
Established in 1963, public-listed Chemical Company of Malaysia Berhard (CCM) has a 1,732 strong workforce and comprises manufacturing units Upha Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and CCM Pharma; as well as its marketing unit and retail outlet CCM Pharmaceuticals (formerly known as Upha Corporation) and Prima-Health Pharmacy (Retail).

As one of the largest pharmaceutical, chemicals and fertilizers manufacturer in Malaysia, CCM has a regional presence with offices in Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines. The organisation is constantly on the lookout for professionals with experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
2. Intel Malaysia
You may know Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) for its processors. But this company is more than just that - from powering the latest devices you depend on to driving policy, diversity, sustainability and education.
 
Intel Corporation chose Penang, Malaysia as the site for its first location outside of the United States. Since its establishment here in 1972, Intel Malaysia has grown from a workforce of 100 to approximately 7,000 today. 

Home to Intel’s largest Assembly Test Manufacturing site, Intel Malaysia also houses the Malaysia Design Center which is the largest silicon design centre in the region, the Malaysian Global Shared Services Center which is one of only two Intel hubs for shared services that supports HR, Finance, Procurement, IT and Planning operations in other Intel sites around the world and finally, Intel Malaysia’s newest design centre; the Programmable Solutions Group which was established through the acquisition and integration of Altera.
 
Intel is looking for engineers in the fields of software, circuit design, hardware design, software validation and product development, IT systems analysts, finance and accounting professionals, and application developers to further strengthen their existing workforce. 
3. Motorola Solutions Malaysia
An organisation that has 14,000 employees in 60 countries, Motorola first established its Malaysian office in 1974 in Penang. Today, Motorola Solutions Malaysia comprises R&D operations, supply chain functions, finance shared services as well as the Global Regulatory and Reliability Operations Center of Excellence. Since its establishment, Motorola Solutions has invested over USD1 billion in Malaysia and has grown from a team of 10 employees to a 1,500-strong workforce.

Motorola, which has plans to expand and grow in the area of Mission Critical Intelligence and Solutions and Services, is looking for electrical, software and mechanical engineers.
4. OSRAM Opto Semiconductors
Located in the Bayan Lepas Free Trade Zone area, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors was first established in 1972 and commonly known among the locals as the company that manufactures light-emitting diodes or LEDs. Today, the organisation has offices in the United States, Germany and China with a workforce size of 6,000 employees worldwide.

With plans to set up a new wafer fabrication facility in Kulim as well as to expand their current Penang plant, OSRAM needs both experienced and fresh graduates in various engineering specialties such as R&D, electrical, mechanical, mechatronics and electrical & electronic and in other related fields such as physics, chemistry and material science.
5. Pharmaniaga Berhad
One of the largest local healthcare companies in Malaysia, Pharmaniaga’s principal activities include the manufacturing of generic pharmaceuticals, logistics & distribution, sales & marketing, supply of medical products & services including hospital equipment and community pharmacy. 

This organisation with offices in Jakarta and Bandung is on the lookout for pharmacists, chemists, regulatory and drug safety specialists, microbiology technicians, and plant and production managers.
6. Silterra Malaysia
Founded in 1995 and previously known as Wafer Technology Malaysia Sdn Bhd, the now renamed Silterra Malaysia set up its first manufacturing facility in Kulim. Offering CMOS design and a broad range of fabrication processes integrated chips, Silterra also provides design solutions and Failure Analysis (FA) services.

Soon to embark on the physical expansion of its wafer fabrication facility, Silterra plans to introduce technology related to Silicon Photonics, Power Management, RF-MEMS, CMOS Image Sensors and Biometric Devices. The organisation is looking to hire engineers specializing in manufacturing, industrial engineering and specialists in site operations as well as Oracle ERP.
